Tipsy Robot is a robot cocktail bar inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood.
Basically it consists of two industrial robots fitted with cocktail shakers that mix cocktails that you select on an iPad screen. It’s a pretty simple concept but the sort of thing you’ll only find in Vegas!
It’s quite fun to watch and you can choose just about any combination of spirits and mixers. It particularly appeals me as it combines my interest in cocktails and technology! But realistically it’s probably just somewhere to visit once while you are passing.
Really it’s not designed as a bar to any time in, as the seating just consists of stools in front of iPad screens. But it’s great to grab a drink of your choice to take-away and drink on the move. It’s always been pretty empty when I’ve visited.
Using the iPad you have the option of choosing one of the pre-selected cocktails, which you can adapt to your liking, or inventing something completely new. You can even name your cocktail.
Your named selection appears on a list on a screen in the bar and then you just need to wait until it gets to the top of the list to watch one of the robots to mix it for you. You can also follow along on the screen to see what ingredients are added when. When complete, the drink simply slides towards the front of the bar for you to pick up.
Prices vary depending on the cocktail ingredients and when I was last there I spent $20 (around £16) for a variation of a Long-Island ice tea. So not the cheapest of drinks, but you’re really paying for the novelty of watching a robot make it.
You pay on a card directly on the iPad and are encouraged to add tip (for a robot?!) and, this being Vegas, when you pick up your drink there’s a cash tip jar too!
There’s also a ‘human’ bar in the same area, where the cocktails are a more reasonably priced, but where’s the fun in that?
