There are two outlet malls within easy reach of the strip. One is in the north, towards downtown and one is at the southern end, beyond Mandalay Bay.
They are both called Premium Outlets and are run by the same company. There are some differences between the shops available at each mall, so worth checking the brand you want is there before you go.
Las Vegas South Premium Outlets is the older of the two and the first I visited in 2001. Back then it was just a long, large indoor mall. It’s since expanded slightly and now has a few big shops along the front of the mall that you access from outside. It’s slightly smaller than the Las Vegas North Premium Outlets, with over 140 shops versus over 180 shops at the North Outlets.
In theory shops at the outlets sell items that you would normally find in a sale in the normal shops, so everything should be at discount prices. However, there are definitely some shops that have lines that have been made explicitly for their outlet shops. That said, you can get some bargains, so well worth shopping around and comparing prices. Also the shops often have clearance sections in addition to the standard items, so you can get a bargain from there too.

The advantage of the South mall is that it’s mainly indoors, so fully air-conditioned. It’s also a long, thin mall so a little easier to navigate. At various points along it’s length there are foodcourts to keep you going along with a Starbucks.

Travelling by bus
The South Premium Outlets are slightly easier to get to by bus from the strip. It’s a direct route to the stop for the mall on the Deuce bus southbound. You get off at the LV South Premium Outlets stop, which is very close to the north end entrance to the mall.
To return to the strip, it’s a little more complicated. You get back on the Deuce bus southbound at the same stop, but you get off two stops later at the South Strip Transit Terminal. Then change to the Deuce bus Northbound. It’s very straightforward and there are usually a lot of people doing the same thing.
See Bus travel in Vegas for more about getting around by bus.

Personally I think I prefer the North Mall to the South, mainly due to it being based outside and having a slightly wider variety of shops. That’s the one I usually head for, if I only visit one during my stay.
However if you are based at the south end of the strip you might find it quicker and easier to get to the South Mall.
