Whilst in Vegas you are going to hear a lot about visiting the Grand Canyon, due to the many excursions that will be offered to you.
The Grand Canyon is actually 250 miles from Las Vegas, about a 4.5 hour drive away. There are many day trips on offer by coach, helicopter or small plane. Some people take a couple of days to take in the canyon and stay over as part of their holiday.
The nearest part of the Grand Canyon is the West Rim which is 125 miles away, around a 2.5 hour drive. Making it the easiest to do as a day trip. If you have a car this is easily drive-able in a day. It’s a great day out and you pass by the Hoover Dam on the way which can be added to your road trip.
The west rim area includes the Skywalk which is a horseshoe shaped circular glass walkway out over the canyon.

My last visit to the canyon was by helicopter on my trip in February 2024. There are several companies that offer tours, mainly day trips, flying out and over the canyon or landing for you to explore on foot. We went with 5 Star Helicopter Tours, which was recommended by our hotel concierge.
We did the Eagle point tour, which was about a 40 minute flight from the strip with a hour at the canyon to explore the visitors centre and gift shop and, if you wanted to, you could pay extra to go on the Skywalk.
We were picked up at our hotel and taken to the airport. The flight takes you over the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead and on the return we flew the full length of the strip from downtown to Mandalay Bay.
There were six people on our flight, two in the front seats and four in the back and we switched seats for the return so I was in the front going back.
The whole tour was about 4-5 hours in total, from being picked up to being dropped off.
The cost was around £370 and was well worth the money for a very easy way to visit the canyon from Vegas, I would highly recommend.
