Trams in Vegas

Before there was the Las Vegas monorail, there were several small monorails and light railways connecting some of the casinos together.

Basically, with some hotels owned by the same corporations, they were quite happy for you to go between the hotels to keep you spending in their properties, rather than you walking between them and a getting distracted by other casinos!

These transport links usually run from the back of the casinos and are frequent and free to use. There were four of these links, however, one of them, the monorail link from MGM Grand to Bally’s (now Horseshoe Las Vegas), has since been extended to become the paid-for Las Vegas Monorail.

There are three remaining links, which are now called ‘Trams’ (so as not to confuse them with the Monorail). They are:

  • Mirage-Treasure Island Tram (connecting Treasure Island to Mirage)
  • Aria Express (connecting Bellagio/Vdara to Aria/The Shops at Crystals to Park MGM)
  • Mandalay Bay Tram (connecting Excalibur to Luxor to Mandalay Bay)

To be honest, like the monorail, you are often better to just to walk between some of these casinos. You might save your legs a bit by using them, but it’s often a long walk to the station in the first place!

Mirage-Treasure Island Tram

This tram runs from the back of Treasure Island to the front of the Mirage and is only 300m long!

Aria Express

This tram has three stations connecting Park MGM and Bellagio. The middle station is above The Shops at Crystals. The stations are a bit confusing as they serve different places. So from the middle station you can get to the Aria and the Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas. And from the Bellagio station you can also get to the Vdara.

Mandalay Bay Tram

This tram runs from right in front of the Excalibur Hotel and Casino, on the Tropicana – Las Vegas Boulevard road junction to the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino at the southern end. In the middle is the Luxor station. There are two lines, one runs direct between Excalibur and Mandalay Bay and the other has the additional Luxor stop in the middle.
